Mr. Michael Savage (Dartmouth—Cole Harbour, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, we are fortunate to live in Canada, a wealthy country. Most of the world's population is not so lucky and much of the world suffers from extreme poverty.
Hon. John McKay (Scarborough—Guildwood, Lib.) moved for leave to introduce Bill C-293, An Act respecting the provision of development assistance abroad.
In the past twenty years there have been consistent calls, both within the Canadian government and by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development Donor Assistance Committee (OECD DAC), for the establishment of poverty reduction as a clear mandate for the provision of Canada’s Official Development Assistance (ODA).
