Black History Month 2011 Celebration with the Students of Mason Road J.S.

February-02-11

“Today marks the official beginning of Canada’s annual Black History Month, first recognized by the Parliament of Canada back in 1995.

“Over the next four weeks, Canadians will have an opportunity to pay tribute to the long, proud record of achievement that defines the black community across this country.

“A new generation of black Canadians is also leading the way in affirming that inclusiveness and true diversity remain one of the core strengths of this country. Following the tradition of those who came before them – like Judge George Carter, the Hon. Lincoln Alexander, Ferguson Jenkins and Leonard Braithwaite – hope and opportunity exist as never before, whether within our public institutions, our boardrooms or in small business.

“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, I extend my fondest wishes to all Canadians celebrating Black History Month.”
