MP John McKay Co-Hosts Screening of Sri Lankan Documentary – the Killing Fields
As the Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Guildwood I was proud to co-host the screening of the UK Channel 4 – Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields documentary in Parliament on Wednesday September 26th. This well attended screening organized by Human Rights Watch was co-hosted by, MP Rathika Sitsabaisan, and MP Patrick Brown.
As the situation in Sri Lanka continues to be cause for concern, we must work together to ensure that human rights, democracy, and rule of law are upheld. The current issues that Sri Lanka faces cannot be ignored simply because the war has ended. Instead we must work with Sri Lankans to help them face the challenges within their society, and bring about reconciliation and political change. An important part of this can be done within our own community through raising awareness with events such as this.
Following the event’s success I would like to take this opportunity to thank Human Rights Watch for organizing the event as well as my co-hosts for their participation.
I would also like to thank a number of my constituents who travelled all of the way from Toronto to be here for this event, Juanita Kathirgamanathan, David Poopalapillai, Suthenthireswaran Nadarasa, Deepan Vigneswaran and Thevatharshan Mahathevan. I would also like to highlight the tireless work of Raj Thavaratnasingham who has been a steadfast supporter and promoter of this issue.
Hon. John McKay, P.C., M.P.
