Press Release: John McKay Attends Global Energy Conference in Germany

Dear friends of the environment,

I am writing to let you know that at the invitation of the German Embassy in Ottawa I will be participating in the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue – Towards a Global Energiewende conference in Berlin as the Environment Critic for the Liberal Party of Canada.  The conference has been organized by the German government in concert with other countries and will take place from March 26-27, 2015. Also participating will be Julie Gelfand, Canada’s Commissioner of the Environment & Sustainable Development, representatives from the Pembina Institute and Clean Energy Canada, as well as officials from NRCan and Alberta’s Department of Energy.

As you may know, Liberal Party of Canada leader Justin Trudeau has pledged to attend the COP21 conference if the Liberals form government. He has also recently announced his plan to address climate change in a recent speech entitled A Medicare Approach to Fight Climate Change. You can watch the speech here:

A key goal of the conference is to begin discussions about the ideas that can help achieve meaningful outcomes at the COP21 Paris conference in December, as well as the strategies to help the international community reduce the global carbon footprint. Prior to the conference, our German hosts will be giving a tour of the remarkable cities and jurisdictions that have begun to make the transition to 100% renewable energy. The tour will begin in Hamburg on March 23rd.

Throughout the trip, I will be tweeting and posting blogs on my website and social media. Here are the links:

I would also appreciate hearing any suggestions you might have in terms of ideas you think should be discussed at the conference.
I look forward to hearing from you.
